Now a mercantile, the Oriental was known in the 1880s as one of the most elegantly furnished saloons in Tombstone.
Still, it was, like most places in town, the site of more than one death, including that of Billy Claiborne at the hand of "Buckskin" Frank Leslie. Claiborne was attempting to kill Leslie after Leslie dismissed Claiborne's insistence on being called "Billy the Kid" like William Bonney, who was killed the year before. Leslie, however, got the drop on him.
